MB2 Motorsports Racer Makes Leap to Red Bull Global Rallycross

After pulling off the unprecedented stunt of winning one of the biggest karting titles in North America in his rookie season, MB2 Motorsports driver Christian Brooks has made the jump to the Red Bull Global Rallycross’ Lites division for the upcoming 2016 season.

Brooks claimed the 2016 Challenge of the Americas Senior Max title with his fourth event win in his first year on the tour. By doing so, Brooks was also able to claim his spot on Team USA for the 2016 Rotax Grand Finals, to take place in Sarno, Italy this October. He will be joined at the event by teammates Nick Brueckner and Mike Jones.

The decision to run this year’s Global Rallycross Lites series was an easy one for Brooks, who will once again join up with his friend and teammate Alejandro Fernandez as part of AF Racing. Fernandez is coming off a largely successful 2015 season that saw him finish fourth in driver points, including eight finishes top-five, and five on the podium.

But Brooks also expressed excitement over the new style of racing that mixes high-speed asphalt cornering with dirt-racing drifting and even a jump every single lap. “It’s a great way to get your name out there, and it’s awesome cars with a jump, which is really cool. I wanted to try it out, so we did a couple of tests and I liked it a lot,” he told Red Bull’s website.

Fresh Start, Optimistic Outlook

The native of Santa Clarita, California (located mere minutes from MB2’s Sylmar raceway) is optimistic about his team’s chances in the upcoming season, and just like he did in his first year on the Challenge of the Americas circuit, Brooks has aspirations of another title.

In addition to Brooks joining AF Racing, the team will also be joined by fellow rookie driver Travis Pecoy. Brooks believes the diversity in driving backgrounds combined with Fernandez’s experience in having run the circuit for a year already makes AF Racing a multi-dimensional threat in the upcoming year. “Travis is definitely going to be really good over the jumps and the dirt corners because of his experience with the dirt cars and trucks. I’m obviously going to be a little faster on the pavement because that’s what I’ve driven my whole life,” he said.

Christian expressed his excitement for the races closest to home in Phoenix and at the Port of Los Angeles. You can catch him in action at the Port of Los Angeles race in his MB2 Motorsports Ford Focus On October 8th and 9th. Those interested in making a road trip to see Brooks’ first race can catch his first two events at the Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park in Phoenix, Arizona this weekend (May 21st and 22nd).
